HU-HIPs: Make a difference!

HIGH IMPACT PRACTICES: Engaging Experiences & Enriching Opportunities for HU Students

The Highlands University Foundation met its goal to raise $250,000 in private money to increase high-impact practices that boost student success. The New Mexico Higher Education Department will now provide a 2:1 match, creating a permanent $750,000 endowment.

“Highlands is known for actively engaging students in high-impact learning like undergraduate research and internships,” said said Highlands University President Sam Minner. “Our successful HIPs initiative will further enhance that reputation, and increase our students’ academic achievement.”

HU HIPs: Enriching Experiences

  • Internships in community agencies, businesses and schools
  • Research experiences in on-campus & external labs
  • Community service and service learning opportunities
  • Applied learning experiences
  • Attending and presenting at local, national, international conferences
  • Innovative teaching
  • Expanded use of technology
  • More graduates; more success!

Our award-winning and nationally-recognized ARMAS (Achieving in Research, Math, And Science) program integrates HIPs activities which need to be expanded and available to all HU students. Designing and delivering these High Impact Practices (HIPs) require additional resources… and we need your help to keep growing this important endowment!

We want to build upon the successes in ARMAS which are based on best practices in supporting and empowering students in STEM fields. Through HU-HIPs, we are seeking ways to enrich and expand students’ learning in and out of the classroom.”
