Student Scholarships
– The General Scholarship Fund supports NMHU students with financial
need.  More than half of Highlands students qualify for Pell Grants,
indicating the highest need for support, and nearly half of all
Highlands students are first-generation college students, the first in
their families to attend any 4-year institution.  These students often
struggle to bring together the financial resources they need to advance
their education, and the General Scholarship Fund supports them as they
strive to complete their degree.

Athletics – Our NMHU student athletes have excelled off and on the field. They achieved a combined GPA of 3.10 this past academic year. We are very proud of our Men’s basketball team for winning it’s first RMAC Tournament championship. Four NMHU women’s track and field athletes were named to the 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field USTFCCCA All-Region. One of our wrestlers was named RMAC All-Academic First Team. NMHU athletes were also involved in our community, showing up every Friday morning to give high-fives and words of encouragement to our elementary students.

However, there is still more we need to do to give our Cowboys and Cowgirls the best possible Highlands experience. By continuing to support our student-athletes, you enable NMHU Athletics to provide essential resources that enhance the success and long-term sustainability of our programs, while investing in students who will go on to become leaders in their athletic and professional lives.

Rio Mora– Rio
Mora National Wildlife Refuge provides opportunities for faculty and
students to teach and learn in a unique setting. Students can study at
the refuge to learn and gain knowledge in field collection data across
many different disciplines including field biology, water resources,
forestry, and hydrology, mapping, and environmental geology. The refuge
provides an exclusive learning environment for our students and needs
support to continue it’s mission of education and outreach in
conservation and restoration.

Student Emergency Fund
– This fund assists NMHU students experiencing a significant,
unexpected emergency which financial assistance can help ameliorate.
Examples are students who needed to travel to attend a family funeral,
were in an accident, or experienced job loss.  A one-time award, of up
to $500, can be made from the fund to help students in need due to a
catastrophic event.
