Alumni and Annual Fund: Back to the Challenge Match

There is still a long way to go if the Highlands Alumni and Friends are to match the $40,000 challenge presented to them by the Directors of the Highlands Foundation. In November and December, 110 individuals and couples contributed $16,505, thus freeing up an equal sum from the board member’s contributions.

During the next few weeks we’ll be mailing our second Challenge Match appeal, and with it a list of irresistible tokens of appreciation for your generosity. In order to set the spark of giving, the good people of the Foundation staff proposed that for a gift under $25, a purple Highlands business card holder for the back of your mobile phone; $26 – $199 a purple Highlands coffee mug; and for contributions above $200 a set of four (non-purple) Highlands University Foundation wine glasses.

Finally, all Annual and Alumni Fund contributors will be eligible to win a purple-jacketed iPad mini. We’ll draw the winner’s name on June 30, the final day of the fiscal year and the day when the $40,000 challenge must be completed.

These useful tokens of appreciation carry the Highlands name far and wide, and they can remind you of the importance of Highlands to Las Vegas and New Mexico and to the many alumni and friends whose lives changed here.

“Our larger goal, critical for the University, is to reinvigorate the unrestricted Annual and Alumni fund,” said Will Wootton, executive director of the Foundation.  “With New Mexico State funding down again, the need for student support is increasingly urgent. When they were students, many, many Highlands alumni were supported by University and Foundation scholarships, to the point where some of those recipients have today created their own endowed scholarships, for today’s students.”

The Alumni and Annual Fund supports student scholarships, where the donor can indicate a preference to support a traditional student or a student athlete.
